Books from the old Iraqi Embassy to East Germany, Berlin. Bang! Flocks Critical Mass State Of Flux Zero One
Nicky Broekhuysen is an Artist/Photographer born in South Africa. She studied Fine Arts at the University of Auckland in New Zealand before moving to Shanghai in 2006 where she worked and exhibited as an artist. She moved to Berlin in 2008 where she currently lives and works.

Her work is an exploration into ‘systems of human existence’, meaning structures or institution in which we live such as religion, gender, sexuality, time or political systems. The work reflects the world in a state of flux, a time of change, where these established systems are being constantly questioned and transformed.

She represents these systems through binary numbers, 1 and 0, which signify a set system or code that when placed in a certain way form a predictable pattern while also relating to the digital society of today. Visually dislodging these systems into a state of disorder she questions their current state of existence while releasing them to be re-interpreted into a more flexible and open existence.
